Azores

Some highlights

  • Nothing can prepare you for the majesty of the Sete Cidades Massif on the west side of São Miguel Island.

  • For fit nature lovers definitely go for our Hell’s Window Hike on Sao Miguel or, on Pico Island, head up the appropriately named Pico Mountain, the highest peak in Portugal.

  • Learn how to make delicious white cheese and meet the cows that make it happen - considered by the locals as the happiest cows in the world!

  • For foodies, try the traditional Cozido (a stew cooked in volcanic soil) and allow us to bespoke a tour that includes a tasting of artisanal smoked fish.

  • The children will love this thrilling whale and dolphin watching experience off São Miguel’s coast, by expert naturalists. Or charter a private boat and snorkeling at the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo.

  • From June to October, we can set up once-in-a-lifetime scuba dives taking in the volcanic geology and the staggering ecological diversity it allows for.

  • Or head out further on a deep-sea fishing excursion. Blue Marlin, swordfish, wahoo fish are just a few out there for skilled anglers.

  • For fit bikers, a mountain bike excursion in Sao Miguel is hugely rewarding - pass by natural lagoons, waterfalls, and rolling hills, with opportunities to stop and take in breathtaking views of the diverse terrain.

  • On the island of Terceira descend 100 meters into an ancient lava tube where you can enter the magma chamber of a real extinct volcano. It’s a surreal experience looking up and seeing the sky through the cone high overhead.

The Azores Islands, once overlooked as a vacation destination, are now easily accessible with direct flights from New York and Boston.

São Miguel, the largest of the Azores, is a lush volcanic paradise known as the “Green Island”. Its dramatic landscapes include crater lakes, rolling hills, steaming hot springs, and rugged coastlines that captivate even seasoned travelers.

Explore the rim of Sete Cidades, where twin blue and green lakes fill a vast volcanic caldera, or relax in the thermal pools of Furnas, surrounded by botanical gardens. Visit Europe’s only tea plantations for a serene glimpse into the island’s heritage.

For adventurers, whale watching, canyoning, and diving in crystal-clear waters await. Pair these activities with the Azorean tradition of fresh seafood and stews cooked in volcanic soil for a truly unforgettable experience.

Nature lovers will be enchanted!

OUR HAPPY CLIENTS SAY

We LOVED our tour guide in Sao Miguel.

"She was extremely knowledgeable about the island and was just an incredible person. We connected with her and felt we spent two days with a friend. She took us to beautiful parts of the island and wonderful local restaurants where we could sample the local cuisine. The scenery was spectacular.”

I had an absolutely wonderful time and am immensely grateful for your part in creating such a lovely experience.

"I appreciated seeing so many sides of Portugal, as the Alentejo and Sao Miguel were vastly different from my other two locations, and it was refreshing to see the contrast and appreciate each version of Portugal.”

Our guide was an expert on timings...

"we always seemed to be leaving one beautiful spot just as car after car of visitors were arriving. We are so glad we put ourselves in your hands for the trip. Our photo album is spectacular.”

“Loved Sao Miguel. Loved the “Hell trek” we did, and our guide was so kind to the children. When they are older, we’ll come and explore the other islands”

We returned late yesterday evening from our wonderful trip to the Azores and the Portuguese mainland.

"Your planning was meticulous: literally everything worked perfectly. We were greeted at each airport by an English-speaking, pleasant, and knowledgeable driver; each of the four hotels was terrific (and unique); and the guides were all outstanding”

[Sao Miguel was] such a contrasting experience to the mainland.

"Although it rained a little on our first day we were so lucky for the rest of the stay. The boat excursion was amazing and it was the first time the children have seen a humpback whale. A good memory.”
